Episode 3: Rebuild The Train - Walking through the storm of a job loss.

At any time in life, ya’ll the loss or change of a job is just a normal part of life. It is what it is.

But at this time so many of us are experiencing this on a country-wide scale. We’re still in a global pandemic and cultural upheaval. And if you are fortunate to have not lost your job, it has likely changed the way it looks right now. That causes mental stress. A lot of it.

When we lose our job, or more specifically our income, we have to move quickly to make sure we can stay afloat, pay bills, put food on the table, take care of our babies, keep a roof over our heads. We gotta survive, right?

Because of that very real need to move forward as fast as possible, we rarely take the time to properly grieve this kind of a loss - and I share with you from very personal experience (that I have never shared about before) that grieving a job loss, at any level of traumatic, is deeply important. Or it does come back around and manifests in your body.

When my husband lost his job through the pandemic, a few days after my miscarriage, we worked together to make sure he grieved that loss just as much as we were grieving the loss of our baby.

A loss is a loss. Or it turns into long-term trauma. As a Medicine Woman, I work with people usually months or years after trauma, and it ends up deeply rooted in our bones.

I am sharing with you, from a mental health perspective, how to work through this grief and trauma at this time. We talk about what it looks like to release this pain from your body, and how to go about doing that. We talk about how we can shift the “what now?” to “what’s possible?”

Oh. And I absolutely reject the shame surrounding going on un-employment.
